If you're after a way of extracting every last piece of data from your CDs and turning it into the most musical experience imaginable, then look no further than the all-new 651C CD Player. Developed to offer a true taste of high-end musical reproduction at an altogether more affordable price, it features an all-new twin Digital to Analogue Conversion system (DAC) with the same selectable filter arrangement used in the legendary DacMagic.

These enhancements, in addition to completely retuned audio circuits, make for an even purer, more lifelike experience than its highly regarded predecessor.
Where many CD players use drives designed for computers, at Cambridge Audio we went the extra mile and created a CD-only S3 Custom CD ServoTM drive.
This audiophile design gives the 651C the ability to retrieve maximum digital information which in turn means you hear every last detail from your discs.

Twin Wolfson WM8742 DACs deliver a significant performance upgrade over the 651C's award-winning predecessor and are implemented in a dual differential configuration (each channel has its own DAC to process information). A sophisticated Two-Pole Dual Differential Double Virtual Earth Balanced Bessel filter configuration rejects virtually all noise and distortion present in the DACs and filters them to produce an unprecedented level of performance.

The new DACs also feature a selectable digital filter with three settings to suit your own listening preferences and of course your own system:

The Steep roll-off filter exhibits strong attenuation of aliasing images outside the pass band (i.e. above 22.05kHz) at the expense of a little pre and post-ringing in the time domain.
The Linear phase filter uniquely features, constant group delay' which delays all audio signals at all frequencies by the same amount meaning all audio is fully time-coherent at the output.
Minimum phase meanwhile does not feature constant group delay but rather the co-efficients have been optimised without feed-forward so that the impulse response exhibits no pre-ringing in the time domain.

Cambridge Audio's CD-only S3 Custom CD ServoTM employs a custom designed chipset and the latest double-sided surface-mount technology for ultra short signal paths with freedom from wire links. Circuits and software have been meticulously designed and S3 dynamically adjusts focusing, tracking and output level of the laser in real-time, allowing for maximum retrieval of the digital information and jitter minimisation. This is all made possible by the implementation of a powerful ARM7 processor and complemented by a highly accurate master clock oscillator and carefully designed impedance-matched clock buffering scheme.

Meanwhile, the well-proven transport guarantees incredible rigidity and the CD drawer itself has been designed to offer a smooth, high-end feel. And to ensure simple operation, a high contrast reverse black DFSTN (Double Film Super Twisted Nematic) display offers excellent feedback of the 651C's impressive features which now include CD-text support.

As with all our Azur CD players, a high quality toroidal transformer ensures lower noise and less waveform distortion for quieter PSU operation.

Front Panel Features:

1.) Standby/On - Switches the unit between Standby mode (indicated by dim power LED) and On (indicated by bright power LED). Standby is a low power mode where the power consumption is less than 0.5 Watts. The unit can be left in Standby mode when not in use.

2.) Infrared sensor - Receives IR commands from the supplied remote control. A clear, unobstructed line of sight between the remote control and the sensor is required.

3.) Open/Close - Allows you to open and close the disc tray. After placing a CD in the tray, press Open/Close to close the tray.

4.) Play/Pause - Plays the disc and pauses play.

5.) Stop - Stops the CD playing.

6.) Skip/Scan - Enables you to skip between and search within tracks. Press brieﬂy to skip a track. Press and hold to scan through a track.

Display Functions:

1.) Play - Illuminated during disc playback.

2.) Pause - Indicates that disc playback has been paused.

3.) Display - Alpha-numeric characters which display playback information. On inserting a disc, the CD player will take a few seconds to read the Table of Contents (TOC) information from the disc. The display will then show the number of tracks on the CD and the total length of the CD. If the CD incorporates CD-text, the name of the album will scroll once (the number of tracks remains stationary throughout). Once playback of an individual track begins, the track number, total number of tracks and play-time will be displayed. On a CD containing CD-text, the track name will scroll once. Pressing the button on the remote control will re-display the CD-text.

4.) Random - Indicates random playback mode.

5 Remain - Illuminated when displaying time remaining on track or disc.

6.) Repeat All/Track - Illuminated when ‘Repeat Track’ or ‘Repeat All’ is selected

Remote Control Features:

Standby /On - Switches the ampliifier between on and low power eco-friendly standby mode
Open/Close - Opens and closes the disc tray
Numerics track select - Press the number of the desired track. The track will then play automatically from the start of the track
Track select - To select a track number greater than nine, press -/-- followed by the track number. Playback of the chosen track starts automatically
Play / Stop / Pause - Press the relevant button to play, stop or pause a CD
Skip = Right Skip – Press to skip forward by one track on the CD. Left Skip – Press to skip backward by one track on the CD.
Scan - Press and hold to scan within the selected track. Hold down for seven seconds to increase scan speed. Press the right button to fast forward, the left button to rewind
Information - Used with CDs that support CD-text. In stop mode, press to toggle between album name and total time on the display. During playback, press to toggle between track name and track time
Bright - Alters the brightness of the 351C display backlight. There are three levels of brightness: Bright, Dim and Off
Mute - Mutes the audio on the amplifier. The mute mode is indicated by the source and speaker LEDs flashing. Press again to cancel mute.
Volume Controls - Increases or decreases the volume of the amplifier output.
Source - Cycles through the amplifier's source inputs
Speaker A/B - Toggles the speaker terminals on the rear panel to output speaker A only,speaker B only, both speakers A and B or no speaker output at all.

1.) AC power socket - Once you have completed all connections to the ampliﬁer, plug the AC power cable into an appropriate mains socket and turn the unit on. Your compact disc player is now ready for use.

2.) Power On/Off - Switches the unit on and off.

3.) Control Bus

In- Allows un-modulated commands from multi-rooms systems or other components to be received by the unit.
Out- Loop out for control bus commands to another unit.

4.) IR (Infra Red) Emitter In - Allows modulated IR commands from multi-room systems or IR repeater systems to be received by the unit. Commands received here are not looped out of the Control Bus.

5.) Line Output - Use good quality interconnect cables from these sockets to any line level input on your ampliﬁer. For best results and matched performance, we recommend connection to a Cambridge Audio Azur ampliﬁer.

6.) S/P DIF co-axial digital output - For input to a separate DAC, such as Cambridge Audio DacMagic*, or digital recording machine. To obtain best results, use a high quality 75ohm digital RCA interconnect cable (not one designed for normal audio use).

7.) TOSLINK Optical digital output - Use to connect to the input of a separate DAC* or digital recording machine. Use a high quality TOSLINK ﬁbre optic interconnect cable.

Note: To obtain the best results from your system we recommend using only high quality Cambridge Audio interconnects. This will ensure that you hear your system as we designed it.

Exchange/refund procedure
For exchanges/refund, the customer is required to post an exchange/refund request on the “Q&A” board.

The request is to include the reason for exchanges/refunds and the order number.
In case of exchange/refund request due to product defects or wrong item delivered, detailed photos of the products are also required. Exchanges/refunds will be made shortly upon careful examination and confirmation on the reported defects.
